So why did I choose to do the World Race?
What is the World Race? Do I actually race around the world? These are all questions I find myself asking. The answers to my inquisitions are simple. Although, perhaps they are not as simple as they may seem.
To answer the first question, I need to first understand who I am and why I would choose certain things. I also need to understand that I chose something already chosen for my by God. For starters, I have always been asked what I was going to do with my life, as everyone has. However, I have always been a very passionate person; I have always found great interest in a variety of different hobbies or career paths. It would prove difficult for me to choose one career. This is a partial reason for choosing the World Race. But that doesn't answer my question, how does the race solve that problem? The answer to this question is undefined. I have heard stories from other people who have done similar trips, and they were able to get a clear direction from God on what to do in life and how to do it. Nevertheless, this is not the soul reason for choosing the race. Let's stop talking about me. Let's stop talking about what makes the most sense or what is the most convenient thing to do after high school. Let's stop talking about what I want. That's a tough pill to swallow, isn't it? What about God? What about what God wants? What if the creator of the universe wants something different than I want? What happens now? I'll tell you what happens. I submit. I fully and completely submit. Any other action would be utterly foolish. Why would I want anything other than what God wants for me?
What is the World Race really? The World Race is a program designed for teenagers and early adults after high school. Specifically, the gap year program is what I will be doing, is meant for teens right after high school to get a break from life as we know it. My perception and interpretation of the World Race is that it is a chance to grow closer to God and to become fully in tune with what He has to say. It is an opportunity to live like the 12 disciples and to serve Him everyday. During my race, I will be travelling to Costa Rica, Thailand, and Eswatini (Swaziland). There are many opportunities to serve God in all of these places, whether it's teaching the local children how to speak English, or prayer walking in the red light district, God will show up.
